Books for Adults

The Defiant Child, by Dr. Douglas A. Riley – Even though this is an older book (1997), it still contains a lot of pertinent information. One thing that I really liked that Dr. Riley said was that he would reframe the name to be “Oppositional-Defiant Spectrum” if he could. This just sounds more hopeful to me. Take a look at the descriptions and reviews on Amazon, HERE.

Dr. Riley also has additional resources available. Interested parents and adult sufferers can start looking HERE. (For starters.)

The ADHD Empowerment Guide: Identifying Your Child’s Strengths and Unlocking Potential, by James W. Forgan, Ph.D. and Mary Anne Richey.[1] It was available for under $15, last time I check Amazon. Look for yourself, HERE.

Books for Kids

The Anger Volcano: A Book About Anger for Kids by Amanda Greenslade (2017) – This book uses current work on neuroplasticity in brain research to give exercises that show kids how to retrain their brains. But…it’s for your little one! Amazon has it available for purchase, HERE. Or, you can request it from your local library.

Technology

Dragon Speech-Recognition Software – Dragon Home Version 15 – Dragon transcribes your words into text. This is very helpful for slow-processing students. The current software is in its 15th edition. However, you may be able to find older versions.[2] More sophisticated editions (such as the “Professional” suite) expand the functionality. (For instance, higher-power versions allow the transcription of audio files into text files.) But home and student editions suffice for most school-related purposes.[3] Check the current price on Amazon, HERE.
